Authentic Creativity and Emotions are inextricably linked.
The more I study creativity, the more I see that it is in essence a psychology or study of the human psyche.
Expression means “the action of manifesting a feeling.” Creativity is material expression. Material in the sense that it can be experienced (witnessed) by self and others.
Even the seemingly feeling-less creativity of problem solving carries with it feelings of pride and the desire to be helpful.
One might reasonably assume from historical accounts that the artists of the Renaissance, not being affected by the gross commercialism and materialism that pervades society today, approached their art with holistic purposes for intrinsic rewards. But we cannot truly know their minds, nor their purses. As for me, all I can do is decide how I personally will approach my own art.
Meraki is Greek for heart, soul, and creativity and it means to put your whole self into everything you do. That includes your emotions!
In my Meraki Mousas* Creativity Course, we get to the heart and soul of 1. being creative (tapping into our innate creative essence) and “doing creative,” (developing an art-making practice). Learn more at RiseUpCreativity.thinkific.com.

Questions to Consider
Do I want to be authentic? Bare my soul in my work? Do I pursue the enlargement of my soul, suffering notwithstanding? Do I have the courage?
Or do I put forth a superficial work, listening to the “marketing experts” tell me what people will pay for?
I aspire to the former, although I often feel the pull of the latter. I admit to the struggle, the very real and ongoing struggle, so I can understand it in you.
